ABOUT THE WORKSHOP Students interpret assessment as an indication of what teachers value and stand for. When they ask, “Will this be on the test?” they’re really asking about the relative value being placed on specific items of course content. In this workshop with Sue Fostaty Young, we’ll explore ways for you to purposefully align assessment practice with your course’s intended learning outcomes within the framework of your values and beliefs about learning. You’ll come away from the day with a framework for teaching, learning and assessment as well as practical strategies for creating and evaluating a range of tools from paper-and-pencil tests to rubrics and assessment of students’ real-world performance. In keeping with the practical and collaborative nature of the workshop, participants are encouraged to bring any assessment tools they might like to discuss, troubleshoot or refine – exams, assignment descriptions, rubrics, grading grids – anything pertaining to assessment. REGISTRATIONS If you are an employee of one of the Eastern Region Colleges (Algonquin, Durham, Fleming, La Cité, Loyalist, St. Lawrence) your college will be invoiced for the workshop fee. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT A CHEQUE. If you are NOT an employee of the Eastern Region Colleges (Algonquin, Durham, Fleming, La Cité, Loyalist, St. Lawrence), please mail a cheque, payable to Durham College, in the amount of $50.00 to Teaching, Learning & Assessment, c/o Lisa Kerr, Innovation Centre, Durham College, 2000 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, ON, L1H 7K4. Receipts will be issued by mail following the workshop. If a participant is unable to attend, substitutes are welcome but no refunds will be permitted. The cost of the refreshment breaks and luncheon is included in the workshop fees.
